Wearing of Alternate Uniform for Teaching and Non-Teaching Personnel (Due to Increasing Heat Index in the Country)

In response to the escalating heat index experienced across the country, the Department of Education (DepEd) has taken a proactive step to ensure the comfort and well-being of its teaching and non-teaching personnel. Recognizing the challenges posed by the rising temperatures, DepEd has authorized an alternate uniform policy, aiming to offer a more comfortable attire option while maintaining a professional appearance in line with the Civil Service Commission's standards.

Under this new directive, DepEd personnel are given the flexibility to choose between two specific attire options as their alternate uniform. The first option includes any collared DepEd polo shirt previously designated for official events and activities, such as Brigada Eskwela, Palarong Pambansa, and various conferences. The second option is a white collared polo shirt adorned with the DepEd and MATATAG logos, details of which are provided in the accompanying enclosure. Regardless of the choice, these tops are to be paired with matte black pants made from any fabric or textile, including slacks, jeans, and cargo pants. It’s important to note, however, that leggings, tights, and jogging pants remain prohibited, adhering to the guidelines set forth in the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Memorandum Circular No. 19, s. 2000, also known as the "Revised Dress Code Prescribed for All Government Officials and Employees in the Workplace."

This adjustment in the dress code policy reflects DepEd's commitment to adapting to environmental changes while ensuring that its personnel can perform their duties in comfort. The permission to wear these alternative uniforms is effective immediately and will continue until further notice is given. This initiative not only prioritizes the comfort of the staff amidst the heat but also upholds the professional image expected in educational settings. DepEd's decision is a commendable step towards acknowledging and addressing the practical needs of its workforce, ensuring that the increasing temperatures do not become a hindrance to the valuable work carried out by its personnel.
