GOOD NEWS! DBM announced that First Tranche of Salary Increase will be Implemented this Year 2024

 JUST IN: The Department of Budget and Management, in a press briefing Thursday (Aug. 1, 2024), says the first tranche of the salary increase for government workers that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced in his SONA will be implemented this year retroactively starting January 2024. 

An Executive Order will be issued to detail the four-tranche salary increase, the DBM says.

Proposed Salary Increase for Gov't Officials and Employees Effective January 2024

The  "Salary Standardization VI" seeks to grant increases to the basic salary of government workers, to be given in four (4) tranches. This will allow them to cope with the continually rising prices of basic commodities and services to be able to continue to provide decent living to their families. More importantly, the proposed bill intends to convey the government's gratitude for their selfless service and utmost dedication to their work. 

This will make the compensation of government workers competitive, thus helping retain the incumbent employees and attract applicants at the same time. Through this, we can expect a more vibrant and robust civil service in the country.

Government employees with Salary Grade 11 will receive P29,700 in the First Tranche and P39,531 in the Fourth Tranche.

Conclusion

While the announcement has been met with enthusiasm, there is a shared hope among government workers that the increase will be implemented without delay. The phased approach aims to balance fiscal responsibility with the immediate needs of employees, but many are eager to see these changes take effect as soon as possible.
